The project consists of several minor R&D projects aiming at developing the next generation of Pit Thermal Energy Storage (PTES) solutions to be delivered by Aalborg CSP.
The new solutions will help reduce the total cost of a PTES thereby maintaining Aalborg CSP's competitive position in the market. While some of the PTES R&D projects will focus on improving and optimizing the PTES design, others aim at investigating and providing new possible solutions for installation and applications. Sourcing projects are also part of the overall PTES R&D project portfolio. As per mid 2021, four individual PTES projects have been initiated.
- Cassettes and rails for ballast layer. Mainly optimization for easier and faster installation.
- Solution for transportation of materials on top of the floating cover during installation.
- Air vents. Development of a new design that can be installed to the floating liner without making use of plastic welding.
- Locking of XPS sheets during installation
