Heating and cooling in symbiosis

Cooling can be efficiently and flexibly produced in symbiosis with district heating. By simultaneously producing heat and cooling, the same heat pump can be used for both purposes. Moreover, large-scale heating and cooling storage systems enable shifting of electricity consumption to periods with lower electricity prices.

How does it work?

Cooling is distributed through a network of pipes, similar to a district heating system. Unlike a district heating system, however, a district cooling system sends cold water to customers in need of cooling. This includes customers requiring air conditioning or industrial customers in need of cooling for food, machinery, servers, and more.
