Aalborg CSP received an order from the combined heat and power plant Smørum Kraftvarmeværk to deliver an 8MWth solar heating plant that will reduce the facility’s natural gas dependency as well as stabilize energy prices.

FACTS:

Client:       Smørum Kraftvarmeværk
Location:    Smørum, Denmark
Status:    Operational
Technology:     Solar-thermal plant
Capacity:    8MWth
Contract type:    EPC

Solar-thermal technology matching the customer's energy needs

The 11,312 m2 solar field consists of 59 rows of flat solar-thermal panels that can jointly produce 5,568 MWh heat annually and thereby sustainably contribute to meeting 2,583 consumers’ heat and hot water demands. Aalborg CSP’s scope of supply also included a 2,2km long piping for energy transmission enabling the delivery of energy from the solar field directly to the district heating central.

Heat production exceeds expectations

The system has been harvesting the sunrays since Spring 2018. During test productions, the solar plant was able to produce 40% more energy than anticipated and thereby cover nearly 100% of the city’s hot water and heat demands. Besides offering a cost competitive solution for heat production, the solar plant also avoids the emission of at least 1,100 tons of CO2 annually.

Scope

  • Design and delivery of complete solar collector system (flat panels)
  • Design and delivery of pipping (valves, drain, headers etc.)
  • Mechanical and electrical installation
  • P&I diagrams and control system
  • SRO/PLC
  • 3D model
  • Strength and flex calculations
  • Documentation
  • Supervision of installation and commissioning
  • Legalization of the plant
